Our story
Where we started.
Jorge Torres and Adam Carrigan released the first version of MindsDB in Berkeley in 2018. The name came from the “Minds” in Iain M. Banks’ Culture novels: intelligent systems that work alongside people.
The first product was an open-source query engine that brought machine-learning models to data inside databases. It later expanded to documents, knowledge bases, semantic search, and federated data access.
Today, MindsHub works toward the same goal in two ways. Cowork helps people complete knowledge work. Unified Inference helps developers put intelligence into their own products while remaining free to choose models and providers. The original MindsDB query engine remains available on GitHub and is maintained by the community. See how the product has evolved →

- Is MindsHub the same as MindsDB?
- MindsHub is the product; MindsDB is the company behind it. The product was renamed in 2026 because it had grown beyond databases. The company and team did not change.
- Is MindsHub open source?
- Core MindsHub technology is open source, including the Anton and Hermes agent harnesses used by Cowork. We believe people should be able to inspect, adapt, and contribute to the systems they rely on.
- Who is MindsHub for?
- Cowork is for people doing research, analysis, reporting, internal tools, and other knowledge work. Unified Inference is for developers building AI intelligence into their own products.
